How Much Does Rendering Cost in Adelaide?

Rendering cost in Adelaide is the first question almost everyone asks, and the hardest one to answer over the phone. Not because renderers are being cagey — because the same house can genuinely cost twice as much to render as its neighbour, and you can’t tell which one you’ve got until someone looks at the wall.

Here’s what actually drives the number, so you can read your quotes properly instead of just comparing the totals.

The short answer

As at August 2026, most residential rendering in Adelaide falls somewhere between $35 and $75 per square metre, depending on the system and the condition of the wall. A standard single-storey home typically lands between $6,500 and $12,000 all up.

Texture coating over existing sound render sits at the lower end. A full render over bare block with repairs and scaffolding can sit at the top. Both are normal prices for the work involved.

What moves the price

The substrate. Brick, blueboard, Hebel, EPS foam and besser block each need a different system, and they don’t cost the same. A wall that’s already been rendered and just needs recoating is a fraction of the cost of a bare one.

How much preparation it needs. This is the biggest single variable and the hardest to see from the street. Cleaning, crack repair, patching and priming can be a morning or it can be three days. Two identical-looking houses can differ by thousands here alone.

Height and access. Anything above single storey may require scaffolding, and scaffold hire is a real line item, not a rounding error. A wall that can be safely reached from ground level costs meaningfully less than the same wall at second-storey height. Tight side access, sloping ground and overhanging trees all add time.

The finish you choose. Sand finish, roll-on texture and trowelled finishes take different amounts of labour and material. The difference isn’t huge per square metre, but across a whole house it adds up.

Total area. Bigger jobs are usually cheaper per square metre, because setup, scaffolding and mobilisation get spread across more wall.

Weather and timing. Render needs dry conditions to cure. Winter jobs sometimes carry more flexibility in the program, which occasionally affects cost — but mostly it affects how long you wait.

What a cheap quote usually leaves out

If one quote comes in noticeably under the others, it’s worth asking what’s different. In our experience the gap is almost always in one of these.

Preparation. The single easiest thing to cut, and the reason most failed render failed. If prep isn’t itemised, ask what’s included.

Number of coats. Two coats and three coats are different jobs.

Scaffolding. Sometimes quoted separately, sometimes assumed to be your problem. Depending on the property and access, scaffolding can add roughly $1,400 to $3,700 to a project.

Make-good. Who cleans up, who repairs the garden bed, who removes the old downpipes and puts them back.

Warranty. A workmanship guarantee in writing is worth something. No guarantee is worth exactly nothing.

None of that means the cheaper quote is wrong. It means you’re comparing two different scopes, and you should know which.

Repair is often much cheaper than re-rendering

Plenty of walls we’re asked to re-render don’t need it. Cracked or drummy render can frequently be cut out, patched and re-coated for a fraction of the cost of starting again — and it lasts, provided the cause of the cracking is dealt with rather than covered up.

We’d rather tell you that on site than sell you a full re-render you didn’t need. If you’re looking at a wall and can’t tell which one you’re facing, that’s exactly the sort of thing a free quote sorts out in ten minutes.

How to get an accurate number

Photos help more than descriptions. A couple of shots — one close enough to see the surface, one stepped back to show the whole wall and the access — will usually get you a realistic ballpark before anyone visits.

After that, the only way to price rendering properly is to stand in front of the wall. Our quotes are free, in writing, and carry no obligation.
